When we are talking about installing stair treads carpet, you usually have 2 options. These are:

  • Waterfall method
  • Cap and band method

In the first method, the carpet covers each and every riser and tread. In the second method, cap and band, which are pieces of carpet, covers riser and the treads respectively.

In this section, I’m going to share with you the procedure to install the carpets on your stairs using the waterfall method. You should also note that this section is only aimed at normal stairs and not for spiral stairs.

So getting to the fun and exciting bit, lets start with the tools that you need to have to install carpets.

Tools required during installing of carpets:

The tools that are required for the waterfall method of installation on normal stairs are as follows:

  • Tack strips
  • Measuring Tape

If you’re unsure about what these are or what they’re meant to do, you can easily find out with a simple search on Google. Step #2:

After that, you need to measure how much carpet you need to buy for the installation process. In order to calculate the required amount of carpet, measure the size of the steps in height and width. When it is a flat surface, then measure its overall length.

Step #3:

If your stairs are open at one or both ends, then make sure that you have measured under the nosing to where it’s going to meet the riser.

Step #4:

Paste on the carpet at the location where you need to install and tighten it by using a knee kicker. The knee kicker helps to install the carpet on the small areas that would usually be hard to reach and it consists of a piece of metal tubing and a pin plate.

Step #5:

Now, it’s time to adjust the treads straight and even on all areas. For this straightening process, you need to use the carpet knife, tack strip, and a knee kicker.

Rinse and repeat this for each stair tread. Before starting on the next one, you need to make sure that  the previous one is finished perfectly. At the same time, give some rest to your knee before starting the process again.

That’s all! These are the steps that you need to follow to install carpet stair treads non slip on the stairs to get rid of those dangerous and irritating falls.
